Pompton Lakes teachers can apply for local education grants

The Pompton Lakes Education foundation (PLEF) is working to enhance the district’s educational vitae.

Teachers and all other staff members that have an innovative educational idea they would like to introduce into the classroom could get some financial support from the PLEF to do so.

The PLEF is currently sponsoring a mini grant program the staff can apply for.

PLEF President Diane Gelok said the grant program is a competitive one that awards between $100 to $500 for projects that support learning.

The PLEF, which formed in 2013, is a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the education experience for students in the schools. This grant program is one of many projects the PLEF sponsors.

The PLEF will be holding multiple fundraisers throughout the year to make projects like the mini grant program available.

One fundraiser, Gelok said, will take place on March 22 at Applebee’s at 1200 Route 23 in Butler. A flapjack breakfast fundraiser will be held from 8 to 10 a.m.

Tickets for the flapjack breakfast are $10 each and can be purchased from Gelok at digelok@optimum.net or Phil Sohn at psohn@columbiabankonline.com

Those interested in supporting the PLEF can also do so through a second fundraiser held this month. For those who present a flier when they dine at Mack’s American Bar and Grill, located at 300 Wanaque Ave. in Pompton Lakes, from March 24 -26, the restaurant will donate 20 percent of the check to the PLEF.

A copy of the flier can be found on the events page of the PLEF website: pomptonlakesef.org.
