The Monett City Council will hold its monthly meeting on Aug. 21, at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall.

The Pierce City Senior Center will host a country breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 19 as part of Howdy Neighbor Days. The menu includes eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy,, tomatoes, bacon, fruit and beverage for $7, or $5 for ages 5 to 10.

Public schools in Monett, Pierce City and Purdy open on Tuesday, Aug. 15. Area police encourage motorists to drive with particular caution, as children walking to and from school may not be especially aware of motorists.

Monett Baptist Church has rescheduled its baptism and church-wide picnic for 5 p.m. Aug. 13 at Jolly Mill, southwest of Monett.

The Purdy School District will have its open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 14 for all school grades.

Volunteers from the First United Methodist Church in Monett are scheduled to work today at the Habitat for Humanity house at 119 E. Nellie. Anyone interested in participating in construction efforts may contact Frank Washburn at 235-8437.

The SilverTeens seniors singles group will meet for supper at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Lucky J Arena and Restaurant, 11664 E. Fir Road in Carthage. For additional information, people may call B.J. McCauley at 417-939-9212.

The Monett Historical Society is planning its second annual historic homes tour in Monett for Sunday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. Commitment from homes to participate are still welcome. For information and tickets, people may stop by the Monett Museum at 422 E. Broadway or call 235-9030.

The Purdy Special Road District commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 at the road district barn, 200 S. Ninth St.

The 44th annual Ernte-Fest continues today Saturday, Aug. 12, on the Ernte-Fest grounds north of Freistatt. Traditional German food, games for children, concessions and bingo will be available. Admission to the beer garden is $5, where live entertainment will feature the Johnnie Zibert Band and the PolkaMeisters for dancing, From the second stage, the Mark Chapman Band plays at 9 p.m.

Beginning next week, replacement work will begin on two bridges on Highway 96 north of Mt. Vernon, including the bridge west of Highway 39 over Stahl Creek. Both bridges are due to be completed this fall.

The next American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 at New Site Baptist Church, southwest of Monett on Farm Road 1060.

Berean Christian Academy in Monett will open school for the 2017-2018 year on Aug. 15. An open house is planned for 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14.

St. Lawrence Catholic School in Monett will open its school year on Aug. 16.

The Barry County Tax Board for the Developmentally Disabled will meet at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14 at the historic Barry County Courthouse in Cassville.

Cox Monett Hospital will offer an Exercise From Home class via Skype, held from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cost is $50 for 10 classes. Participants need only a tablet, computer or mobile phone to connect to Skype. Interested persons can take their first class for free. For information, people may call 417-354-1280.

The Barry-Lawrence Ambulance District board will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 at 307 Dairy St. in Monett.

The Verona R-7 Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the vo-ag room of the high school.

Crowder College in Monett will open its fall classes on Aug. 21. A variety of courses are offered at the Scott Regional Technology Center, including computer applications, phlebotomy, chemistry and general education courses.
